INDICATIONS FOR THE USE OF FINASTERIDE
Finasteride is a medication used to treat hair loss and benign prostatic hyperplasia in men. It can also be used to treat excessive hair growth in women and as a part of hormone therapy for transgender women. It is taken by mouth.
Male pattern baldness (androgenic) in men to increase hair growth and prevent further hair loss. Adults. After. 1 mg once a day, regardless of meals. Treatment should last at least 3 months. After drug discontinuation, its effect wears off within 9–12 months. No dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with renal insufficiency.
Finasteride is used in men to treat an enlarged prostate gland:
- symptomatic treatment – relieving symptoms and controlling benign prostatic hyperplasia;
- to reduce the risk of acute urinary retention;
- in order to reduce the risk of the need to undergo surgery, among others transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and prostatectomy.
- Finasteride reduces prostate hyperplasia and related symptoms, and improves urine outflow.
Finasteride is also useful in the treatment of male androgenic alopecia in men as well as other types of alopecia such as hereditary or common alopecia as well as to increase hair growth and prevent further hair loss.
DOSAGE OF FINASTERID
Finasteride is for oral use.
The dose and the dosing schedule depend on the disease (e.g. the advancement of prostate hyperplasia, the degree of alopecia).
The period of use depends on the disease – it can be up to 3 months (treatment of alopecia). Discontinuation of this substance is associated with the disappearance of the results of alopecia treatment within 9-12 months.
People at risk (with renal insufficiency) take the usual doses of finasteride, no dosage adjustment is necessary.
Usual doses (daily) in adults: 1 to 5 mg.
